The healing model that is offered at Shepherd’s Canyon Retreat is experiential in scope, with an emphasis upon emotional learning. The short-term intensive, thirty- hour small group format serves to accelerate the healing and transformation in the lives of hurting church workers and their spouses. Biblically consistent, the model strongly conveys God’s love and grace, encourages deep and meaningful historical reflection and powerfully embraces the principles of confession found in God’s Word. Even more, the foundation of the entire ministry, emphasized within the therapeutic milieu, is that of grace, and acceptance. Strong efforts are made to encourage all guests to examine their personal history, including issues related to their Families of Origin.
A strong theological basis is essential to effective care of clergy and other professional church workers and their spouses. Grounded in the understanding of the Christian theology of grace lived out in community, our approach remains biblically-based, prayerful and expectant of God doing great things for those who come and enter into a confessional relationship with others. Prayer is a critical element of transformation for those who come and Shepherd’s Canyon Retreat maintains an ongoing prayer ministry through our SCR “Prayer Partners” and through prayer groups in supportive congregations across America. The people who come to Shepherd’s Canyon Retreat quickly learn to humbly and prayerfully encourage and exhort one another, creating enormous potential for transformation in their lives.
Most Shepherd’s Canyon Retreat session will include the services of a retreat Chaplain.
There will be time for personal and group devotions and worship experiences.
