Financial Considerations

Shepherd’s Canyon provides restoration and refreshment for worn-down, hurting church workers and their spouses. Because of the nature of our mission, no one is ever turned away for financial reasons.

While our guests are not billed, our ministry does incur substantial costs to offer this week of individualized care. Each retreat involves licensed counseling, lodging, meals, and hospitality—an investment that often exceeds $10,000 per guest. These costs are covered entirely through the generosity of donors, supporting congregations, and grants from individuals and organizations who believe in this ministry of healing.

If you, your church, denomination, or others are able to assist with the part of our cost of a retreat, a suggested contribution is $5,000 per individual and $6,000 per couple, but this is not required.

Some participants, deeply blessed by their experience, later choose to become donors themselves so others may receive the same care.

If you know of community foundations, family endowments, or granting organizations who might resonate with our mission, please feel free to encourage their support of this ministry.

Kevin Bueltmann has served as a pastor, Director of Christian Education, camp director, and worship leader in LCMS churches and camps in Montana, Nebraska, and Illinois, and now serves as Executive Director of Shepherd’s Canyon, an LCMS Recognized Service Organization based in Arizona and Missouri that provides week-long counseling retreats for ministry workers and spouses facing burnout, stress, grief, compassion fatigue, conflict, transitions, or sabbatical needs. Kevin and his wife, Tawn, first experienced Shepherd’s Canyon personally in February 2021 when Kevin was burned out and ready to leave ministry after carrying heavy responsibilities during COVID, giving them a deep appreciation for the healing and renewal God provides through this ministry. Kevin has a lifelong passion for music and has led thousands of children, youth, and adults in singing praise to God with his guitar. He has written many songs that are used in churches and children's ministries around the world. Kevin and Tawn love spending time with their four children and other family members living throughout the Midwest and beyond.
