My Story
Kevin Bueltmann

Shepherd’s Canyon Retreat is a wonderful blessing that started me on a journey of healing that is still continuing today.

The past few years have been very hard for me. I was serving at a church in Montana that owned its own camp.  I was the camp director and associate pastor, but then when our lead pastor left at the end of January 2020, I took over the vacancy and many of the responsibilities that go along with being a lead pastor...right before the beginning of the COVID pandemic.

I focused so much on helping others that I neglected my own emotional, physical and spiritual health.  I was headed for burnout and one year later (February 2021) my wife and I ended up going to Shepherd’s Canyon for a week-long counseling retreat for burned out ministry workers and spouses.  It was a great way to begin my healing process!

Two months later, I took a 3-month online men’s course with Delight Your Marriage and my good marriage turned into an awesome marriage, which also really helped me better cope with all the challenges of my life at that time.  Besides having the best programs to help husbands and wives (separately) they also have a podcast that is in the top 1% of all podcasts in the world.

Delight Your Marriage later offered me a position to work remotely.  They strongly encouraged healthy habits including taking sabbath rest and discouraged over-working, so it seemed like a perfect place to work while God continued to heal me and so I resigned from my church and camp job in February 2022.

Now that I had extra time, I was able to develop good healthy habits for my heart, soul, and mind and I began walking 2 miles a day while listening to Christian books such as:
-    The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer
-    Emotionally Heathy Discipleship by Pete Scazzero
-    Own Your Past; Change Your Future by Dr. John Delony
-    When to Walk Away by Gary Thomas

I didn't know it at the time, but through all of the events of the past few years, God was preparing me and my wife to serve at Shepherd's Canyon Retreat.  One of the therapists that my wife and I worked with, remembered us and suggested to Dave Anderson that he contact us about some job openings.  After prayerful consideration, Tawn and I moved to Standing Stones to work for Shepherd’s Canyon Retreat in September of 2022.  I serve as “Director of Operations and Marketing” and Tawn serves as “Director of Hospitality”.
